I’ve recently acquired a VF1000 F2 even though the side of it says F11. I don’t have many plans for it at the moment. I have a few ideas but thats the limit of the future of the bike. I want to restore it to a point where it looks really nice, so clean and new paint on almost everything, and rides in a way that I can trust it to almost always work. I’ll post some photos tomorrow when it is in the day light but right now it has all the front plastic removed and rads and I’m on my way to remove the engine for a teardown, inspection and then rebuild with painted parts. The main reason for the rebuild is because I don’t trust that when the Starter Reduction Gear blew up, which I found out after I got the bike home, that there isn’t any metal left in the engine and the paint is also pretty bad. I have a few questions at the moment but my main one is can I use a 1985 VF700 Stater Reduction gear as a replacement because I can’t seem to find one for the 1000cc?
That damage looks like a miss match of splines.
Check that the previous owner hasn’t fitted a vfr750 starter, they fit but have a different number of splines to the vf.
I will have the correct gear in the store,pm me for details
Regards Bif
So the VF700 has 81 teeth on the large side and 21 on the small side and the VF1000 that has missing teeth has 83 teeth on the large side and 20 on the small side. That is a ratio of 27 : 7 for the 700 and 83 : 20 for the 1000 obviously. This would spin the 1000 faster so do you think it would hurt anything, I only ask because I can’t seem to find any parts online for the 1000. Also I’d need a starter as its damaged as well but not as badly.
Update to all of this, I’ve done some digging and I’ve found that it is likely possible that if I get a VFR starter and then a VFR Reduction gear it might be a good fit for a replacement as the VFR gears are redly available.
