Engine ticking at low revs

I have an 85 VF1000FF. Have only recently bought it. It goes well, no complaints, except that sometimes the engine makes a ticking sound. It always stops when I get to about 3500rpm and above. It’s not there all the time at low revs either, bot more often thatn not I guess. It’s not a rattle (like a chain). I’ve recently done the oil and filter, so low oil is not the problem.
Can anyone give me some advice as to possible issues? Doesn’t seem to affect performance.

Hi Digger check the tappet clearance if its excessive look a little deeper could be pitted cam eating its wat into cam follower.
