F1 exhaust ideas

Looking for ideas for a exhaust for the f1 I had the down pipes for the front from the f2 but I had to cut them to get them off as I was trying to save the heads wich are rather rough but might clean I’ll need to get the exhaust off today well what’s left off it

Just curious as to why you had to “cut” the pipes whilst trying to save the heads…??

Cause the mounts are completely seized on I’m gonna have to find a way to get them off

Just the nuts stuck on the studs…?? They’re a strange size stud too, 7mm x 1mm if I remember correctly.

Na the actual collar for the exhaust to mount upto us sezied on the studs

Hi Ben, did you ever get a solution to this problem? I have the same issue, seized exhaust clamps on the front downpipes. Think I’m gonna slice them lengthwise with a dremel and hope I can free them without damaging the studs. Cheers, John

I had lob the whole pipe off wasn’t salvevegable I do have a collector box I could sell and even some can cans if ur in uk

Cheers Ben. I managed to get the front clamps off using a dremel and saved the studs in the engine block. The next problem was that the clamps wouldn’t come off, due to the front down pipes being welded into the collector box, so I cut the down pipes. I’m looking to source replacement clamps(rears if they will fit) and fit spacers on the downpipes. Which model is your collector box and end cans? Mine are rusty and need some work before refitting.

Mines is for 84 vf1000 one off the rear collector box pipes to go up needs welding be easy job

I got rid of the silly collector box…now have home made “cross-over” stainless headers.

That sounds like the way forward. Any chance you could share some photos? Cheers

I thought I had a better photo, I’ll have to fumble through all my pics…but this will give you the idea…

Looking from the rear underside of the bike…before I fitted the Dominator mufflers.

Cheers Smithy, nice bit of work and well above my ability. Did you notice any change in sound or performance?

Sound is a lot deeper and a little more “offbeat” than normal with the “crossover” and dominator mufflers fitted…a small jetting change from 140 to 145 was required as the top end flow is a tad better than stock but apart from pulling better in the mid-range…power is essentially unchanged…most exhausts people fit will reduce power over the stock exahust unless it is a proper race setup with tuned length pipes and a good carbie tune applied. Honda aren’t idiots when it comes to exhausts of their bikes…most of them work well within the limits imposed on them from Government emissions requirements etc..

Cheers Smithy. :+1:

Yes, the rear clamps fit also to the front.
