Hello to everyone

Hello all

I’ve been a CB Big One 1000 Project owner for many years and have spent some time recently looking at white/red decal versions of the VF750/1000 models to go along side my CB to keep it company over the cold winter months ahead of us.

Top speed capability or the 0 - 60 rush are no longer top of my wish list when it comes to a bike acquisition.

My first question is riding position ….. I’m just shy of 6 ft and medium build (13 stone) plus my backs not great and I wondered what the general consensus was about the 750 …… is it thought to be smaller/cramped compared to the 1000?

Really looking forward to getting my VF whether its a 750 or a 1000 ! (I’ve just missed a Bol D’Or 1000 that looked pretty good on Ebay that went for a mere £1425)

Both the 750 & 1000 are great bikes and essentially run a very similar frame, the engine from a 1000 will actually fit in a 750. Rear wheels are different sizes between them. The later 1000’s have an 18” front wheel..
Back in their day they were the “bike to have”, still look a nice bike even by today’s standards.

Have you thought of a VF1000R..?? Although the riding position of the R isn’t as “relaxed” as the F’s.

Thanks for the info Smithy - its good to know the frame is no smaller on the 750 model.

A friend has the 1100R and I’ve lusted over it for many years, but they are a lot more expensive and as you say don’t have as relaxed a riding position.
Many thanks again for the helpful advice …… nows the time to start looking properly.

Regards

John

The frames of the 750F and 1000F are different but not hugely…as mentioned, the engine of the 1000FE will fit in the 750…I have a friend who has fitted a VF1000R engine into a 750F.

The CB1100R is a rare beast indeed, but it isn’t a VF1000R and has a more relaxed riding position than the VF1000R. The VF1000R’s are out there, although not as numerous as the F’s.

Here’s a pic of my recently restored ‘84 RE, and below it the much drooled over CB1100R.

I must admit that I haven’t looked carefully at the decals on the his rear seat cover ….. the rest of the bike is too big a distraction ! It doesn’t sound at all like I would expect a CB to sound …. I’m always following him if only to hear his exhaust note.

I appreciate you spending time to provide the info about the riding position as its important I get it right. Last year I bought a ‘93 Daytona 1200 thinking it would not be that different to my ‘93 Trophy 1200 (same engine, wheels and frame) but it was a little more cramped …. supposedly it was a superb fantastic example etc etc but turned out to have loads of issues so I was able to reject it.

PS

Your VF1000R looks stunning. When I downsize and have some spare cash I’ll probably go for one …… and then mostly just sit back and gaze at it.
