Would the instruments from an 87 vf1000 work on an 84?

They look identical to me.
If your plastic is cloudy you can hit it with some fine 800-1200-2000’wet rub’ and polish the cloudiness out, then find someone with a buff to polish the plastic, worked fine for me.
It appears that the clusters are not the same. Actually the clusters are the same, the wiring on the back is different. There is an extra wire on the 87 that’s not on the 84. I swapped out the wiring with the one I had. You probably could just ground the extra wire since that’s what it is, just no connecting for it on the mini plug that connects to the bikes harness.
