I have an '84 VF1000F with a buggered rebound adjustment mechanism - missing balls and stretched springs.
Is it better to rebuild/replace the stock adjuster or simply eliminate it and use a plain fork top cap?
If replacement is the better choice, do any of you have a spare for sale? I have the right size ball bearings and the white plastic disc with the detents but need new springs and the screw that holds the cap to the damping rod.
Just eliminate the system altogether, it never did work well, even when the bikes were new. I’ve fitted YSS compression/rebound valve emulators and springs rated for my wieght in my VF1000R and they work really well, transformed the front suspension feel and stability.
I’m with Smithy1. I gave the fork of my VF1000R to an expert 2 years ago. He replaced the original springs with progressive one. The difference is dramatically. On the brakes the forks works now as it should. We decided to leave the old system in place, due to avoid problems with the registration. But it’s without effect and a replacement was also an option.
