I’ve just moved from Australia to Switzerland and of course needed a project bike for over here in Switzerland.
I decided I was going to get a VF1000F so started looking around - which isn’t easy when you don’t speak German. I found a whole bunch of parts for a VF - all the carbys, fuel tank, all the bodywork/fairings, seat, dash, all the brakes, radiators and lot of other stuff for a price I just couldn’t refuse, so I bought all those - just in case - but still no bike.
I kept looking for a bike and about a month later this ended up in my garage ![]()
As you can see - there is a lot to do - but basically its sound - not sure about the plastics/tank - but the Engine and Frame Numbers match - its done 48,000kms - so the engine is going to need a good going over.
And about a week after buying this bike I saw another bike advertised as a Parts Bike.
it was OK condition, but it had been stripped for parts - missing things were all the carbys, fuel tank, all the bodywork/fairings, seat, dash, all the brakes, radiators and lot of other stuff -???- hang on…could it be??? And the asking price was less that the pair of tyres I could get off it.
Long story short - I bought it - brought it home - and it turns out this was the very same bike my first hoard of parts had been stripped off - so now I had the full bike - or at least 98% of it. The motor only has 18,000 kms on it - so I’m a bit concerned as to why someone would strip one of these with only 18,000kms - did the infamous cams blow up?? Time will tell.
And as it turns out the Frame Numbers for the two bikes are only about 40 apart, so I would say they came over to Switzerland in the same container.
They are Twins.
So I’m going to restore them both - one is going to be Red/White/Blue - the other the Honda Black/White/Grey.
So they are my new projects - and I’m already posting questions in the Shed.
Thanks for having me.
