VF1000R Front Axle Clamps

Hi,

I’ve tried searching but can’t find an answer …

I’m stripping my VF1000RE forks and want to remove the axle clamps so that I can get the sliders blasted and powder coated and the axle clamps vapour blasted.

How are the clamps fixed? I thought it was a shouldered pin with a straked end, and figured if I ground the straked bit off then they would drift out. When that didn’t work I thought it must be threaded and then straked. So I drilled and used a thread extractor and finally, after lots of heat, got the pin to turn, but it turned and clearly wasn’t threaded.

Any one done this before? I have no issues with getting new pins made, but I’d like to know what I’m dealing with here.

Regards,

Max

I don’t think they were ever intended to be removed Hondamax. I looked at mine and decided I would leave them alone. Mask during sand blasting and spraying, polish and clear coat at the end.

THX113,

Thanks for that, the only problem is that I’ve started on one of them …

I think I’m going to have to fabricate a pin press, because I can’t leave it as it is. Fortunately I do have a spare set of front forks if necessary …

Regards,

Max
