1984 VF1000FE Rebuild

From personal experience the ignition switch can cause some exciting problems when riding. I fitted a new complete switch from ebay which solved all the probs.

Well, she runs & for a lash-up first start she ran okay, no nasty noises etc :slightly_smiling_face:

Carb sync results :

When i first tried to run the fuel pump after sitting unused for nearly 15 years it started smoking, then eventually made a popping sound & seemed to be okay.
After doing the carb sync i figured i ought to check the pump & fuel delivery was a dribble so i guess it’s caput so I’m now on with a VFR750 pump install

Test fit of the fairing, I’ve insured it today and I’m hoping to give it a first ride around the block maybe Thursday

Test ride completed & apart from something weird going on with the neutral light (stays on in first gear with the clutch in, let the clutch out & it goes off !) everything seems fine, riding position is odd after modern bikes ( need short legs & long arms), motor runs really nice, carburates nice a clean & its surprisingly fast too :+1:

By a complete fluke i think i might have found my neutral light culprit, there’s a thing called a silicon rectifier connected into the loom & I’ve just tested it & got a beep in both directions. I’ve a feeling it could be a victim of the cheap starter solenoid & associated hassle

Nice catch. If it’s beeping both ways, it does sound like that rectifier might be the issue, cheap solenoids can definitely cause problems like that. Hope that fixes the neutral light.
