Carb problems, hoping for advice Ꙭ

Question on draining the coolant system.
Did you drain the block plus have you had the top radiator out as it doesn’t completely drain .

Peter,

No, I didn’t remove the drain plugs in the block and no I didn’t remove the top radiator.

After several minutes of flushing the system backwards and forwards, several times, nothing came out but clear water. BTW, my house’s water pressure is 85psi.

Gil

Sounds like its all good.
Happy riding

Yep, after a long hard ride, it stays in the lower 3rd of the gauge.

I think i have success on the overheating front, so far. Rode around with the Nulon product in the system for an hour or so, then pulled all the drains (including cylinder drains), then sealed the garden hose into the top filling point & blasted the system through for awhile with mains pressure water. A lot of brown water & sludge blew out :slightly_smiling_face: Refilled with 50/50 mix, let the air bubbles out then hurtled around for another hour, up the Murwillumbah hill (northern NSW). Needle didn’t get above the half-way point!!! Fingers crossed on that front. Still running badly, but very rideable until about 5k RPM and lots of throttle, then it starts to strangle out. Good for keeping my driver’s license, at least…

Fuel pump not happy..?? Fuel filter clogged maybe..?? Pulse generators not happy..??

Smithy.

I’ve carefully re-plumbed the fuel supply without pump. Filter’s new, plenty of flow from tank so mesh filter in there is clear. Cranking on the choke to full doesn’t improve things when it happens. Starting to think it might be the ignition system. Really don’t want to throw big money at things to find out if they can help. In the meantime, the bike’s still fun to ride. I don’t need to go racing young fellas, plenty of fun right up til when the bad thing happens :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Hi murr223,

well done with solving your overheating problem.

Any luck with your power loss issue?

I have a similar problem with my FF with RG motor, which used to happen at about 6500 revs but gradually got worse and occurred at lower revs, maybe 5000.

I’m going to try another igniter box. the FF uses a single instead of the two boxes used in the FE/REs. Worth opening your igniter box and checking for dry solder joints?
