Hi, I managed to remove the front fork due to a leak at the bottom Allen key type bolt.. bearing in mind these were reconditioned about three months ago.. should have the brass brush been replaced and the 2x white plastic bushes as they’re very rough and scored like the brass bush.. the Allen key and brass washer looks knackered so I’m a bit pissed off at the moment as I don’t think these have been reconditioned properly.. when I looked down the tubes there was actually dirt. Are parts like these still available? And are they worth replacing? Thanks Sean.
My fork was reconditioned and upgraded 2 years ago. To get the parts was no problem. The springs have been replaced by progessive one. The result is great. No deep dive on the brakes. The bike can deal with my modern bikes. For me it was clear that I have to use the orignial fork. Only a handful Hondas have the fast mounting device for the front wheel (i.e. RC30).
Those fork bushes look munted and are not new. I “overhauled” my forks myself…I don’t trust anyone. I replaced all bushes and fitted a YSS fork valve emulator kit and YSS springs rated for my weight…so the rebound adjustment on the top of the right fork is now disabled. Even after all that work I found them a little on the “firm” side so I now use 5W oil in them, much nicer. The “anti-dive” system doesn’t really work well, even when the bikes were new they didn’t work well, I think it was more of a sales gimmick thing back then.
The washer in the bottom of the fork holding the damper tube is actually copper, not brass. It should have been replaced as they tend to leak if not new or “annealed”, they can tend to harden over time and become somewhat brittle and less compliant…new washers are easy to get and cheap. I bought a box of 100 various sized wahsers for less than $10AUD.
Hi thanks for the reply… I have ordered all new bushes etc.. gonna have a go myself… the struts have all be hard chromed and the forked powder coated in fighting red so he did all that ok… really not happy with this guy.. he owns a nice little classic bike Workshop in Northampton / Hanslope but he really screwed me over on the forks… thing is he’s not bothered which is not good.. live and learn I suppose!
Oh the link you sent comes up forbidden in this country.
