Front sprocket left/right thread

Hi I’m replacing my sprockets front and rear… is the securing bolt on the front sprocket left or right hand thread? And can I knock it into gear to loosen bolt.. should have loosened it before removing rear wheel and chain . Thanks

Front sprocket bolt is normal right hand thread. Best to undo it whilst the chain is still on…get someone to stand on the rear brake and have at it.

You can put it into gear but all you’ll be doing is turning the engine over..

Sometimes a hit with a decent rattle gun will get it off…If it has been there since new, it may have a silly amount of loctite on it.

Smithy.

My method - if you’ve got a bit of old chain you can put it round the sprocket and then fold it back on itself into the area above the sprocket, hence effectively locking the sprocket, preventing it from turning anticlockwise

Thanks for the advice lads.. :+1::clinking_beer_mugs:

In german there is a mnemonic: So wie ich lauf, so geh ich auf.
Means: As it rotates, it will be unscrewed.
It works for your lawnmower blade and also for the sprocket of your VF1000R
