Fuel shut off relay

84 VF1000F would not start this spring. pulled carbs, cleaned…tested fuel Shut Off relay, failed so replaced…still doesnt pump unless jumped direct. Lost my headlight only in the Fall & could not find the break…connected power through accessory. In replacing fuel relay, found the voltage regulator melted to the stator wire connector(3 way)so replaced. Where to look next? I want to ride…

Hi,
The fuel pump does not pump constantly when the bike is not running. And when the bike runs on idle, the pump pulses around every few seconds. If you fill the carbs by jumping the pump, the bike should start, if everything else is in order. Actually, I have run my bike with pump jumped about two years now. Not recommended, since the cut-off relay is a safety feature, which does not give ground to fuel pump if the bike is not running, but the ignition is still on.
You could have more electric issues because of the melted R/R wires, hopefully not much.

Hi VF Brother…
Thanks for the info…
I guess what is funky after cleaning the carbs, fixing the melted 3 way conector off the Voltage regulator and replacing the fuel shut off relay, I tried to start with no success. Keep in mind the carbs, fuel lines were empty…No pump noise with the key on. So, I jump the pump with a jumper wire, hear the pump clicking then pumping slower as everything fills so shut it down. The beast comes to life, but seems not quite on all 4. Guess I just need to let it pump and let it run, but did not want to pour fuel into the cylinders. I know the floats should stop this, but when jumped the pump did not seem to stop pumping. No external fuel leaks…Have a guy from Honda school that is going to check stator-regulator function…Thinks the bike was jumped by car battery…maybe, but not while the car was running…possibly blew out diodes etc.
