High frequency vibration

Learned collective,

My '85 FF, 53,000 miles, has suddenly developed a high frequency, engine speed related vibration that can be felt through the bars, footrests and seat. There are no associated unusual noises, no loss of power and nothing obviously loose.

The vibration is there in neutral with the clutch in or out, it’s there when in gear clutch in but stationary and there when riding it.

It’s most apparent through the seat.

Any ideas what it could be and why it just suddenly started? Other than the vibration it’s running and performing normally.

Thanks.

Hi Chris,Try loosening all the engine mounting bolts and re torque them to factory specs

Hi, Biff,

Done that. There weren’t any loose ones.

Quick question, though. I noticed that just prior to the vibration manifesting itself, a strange exhaust phenomenon occurred. If the throttle is ‘blipped’, when the throttle is closed a couple of pops (almost like a back fire, but nothing like as loud) could be heard from the left hand silencer. As they’re original fit mufflers, is it possible that the vibration is exhaust related, maybe a loose baffle?

Thanks for your help.

You may have diagnosed your own problem Chris, take the tail pipe off and give it a good shake and you will know for sure

Might be worth checking the exhaust mounting rubbers too.
