Hot starting issues

seems like I’ll need to- everytime I get something done- something else turns up! testing the starter yesterday- right at the end and feeling good the whole bike turned off! the ignition is temperamental. grrr! I’ve squirted crc down the keyhole, so am crossing my fingers on that 1.
Anyway yes it has been apart- it has lining up marks painted on and I think the brush plate looks newer than the rest of it.
-1 here this morning so we’re huddled around the fire- Brrr. but it should get up to a balmy 10 before plummeting again 2 seconds later! ha -we enjoyed Cairns recently.. 20degs at night-- muuch better! cheers trev

I got my new chonda starter and was checking the brushes to be sure.. and noticed the much fewer windings there. Also I got the wrong 1 so had to rotate the brush plate by 90 degs to make it run clockwise- well it’s a much stronger starter than the original- so it can stay on there. The other pic is of how short the (10) splines are, but once mounted they fit the same because the protruding part with the o ring is longer.

The old one still works- but is weaker/ slower..

Starter may be for a VF750 Sabre or Magna…their engines run backwards. The VF750F has a shorter starter gear than the VF1000F/R.

Smithy.

You’re right. It does fit now and turn the right way though after turning the plate 90 degs and the splines line up well too- I’ll put a pic up when I take it off again as 1 of the mounting holes misses by a mm or 2.
