I believe the smaller hose you speak of also acts as an oil drain/return from the rear head rocker cover…but yes, also acts as a breather of sorts. I forgot about that hose.

Have checked smaller breather hose out of gear box all clear and dry thanks.
Removal of alternator rotor?
rattle gun will not undo bolt .
Can I make a plate up with 2 pins to drop in small holes on flywheel to hold while I undo with strong bar?
Your idea should work…just be careful not to push the pins in too far, might damage the stator. There is a clamp type holder for them too, like a big oil filter strap.

Moving on
all stipped
frame sorted and ready for paint
engine ready for strip, check found blown rear head gasket
will look at bearings etc.
have been water blasting cooling system to clean out
Having trouble finding Rocker cover Gaskets still.
Have managed to obtain 1 in SA Australia But 1 short
Who else is having issues?
Do the earlier ones have the same profile except for the cam tunnel cut outs?
RE/FE are heads are a little narrower than the later FF/F2F/RF/RG heads due to the longer line bored camshafts on the later engines. Rocker cover gaskets are difficult to get in Aus as the later model F’s & R’s are quite rare in Aus.
Most F’s & R’s brought into Australia are the earlier ‘84 FE/RE.
Truth be known, our 42 year old bikes are quite difficult to get parts for.

Has anyone gone to a gasket manufacturer about these Gaskets?
Hi kiwihonda, I have a spare new one in the uk if your interested,
Plenty of FFs and F2 in Oz.
You’re right about RFs and RGs , but I have an RG motor in my FF.
Unless badly deformed, braided, or cut, the valve cover gaskets nearly always clean up ok, and can be refitted without leaking. I have done this routinely for years.
We Had only had RF here and only one order that came out of spain i was told plus had to order and wait.
Plenty of f2 and standard vf1000
Well engine is being checked after a blown head gasket
Checked oil press before removal which was ok so leaving bottom end alone.
Cams in very good condition and rockers.
Front head off and a clean up which is wasn’t bad plus valves need a small polish .
We will replace valve stem seals with viton ones which also fit cbx1000 I found out.
Had a exhaust made up but still have original so stash that away.
hiya- any pics of that exhaust before you put it on? I haven’t touched mine since I bought it, as it passes the wof- but it’s welded all the way and poorly done- so needs replacing. cheers
Yes and this was put on the dummy bike set up
Has a ceramic coating ,something different plus the wife liked the colour
fab thanks - looks nice.. looking forwards to your review of it when up and running- here’s a pic of mine- cheers
Have replaced the horrible rear shock with one off a blackbird.
Top mount ok so removed the bottom blackbird shock mount then got a tube and cut a internal thread to match thread on new shock then copied bottom of mount to match old shock. In hindsight I should have cut old shock up and used its bottom mount which would look tidier but the old shock still hold air which seemed a shame to destroy at this time.( I’ll hang it on the wall).
Looking at the shock this morning and have realised my mistake.
What a fool to do this.
I’ll have to have a rethink to fix this.
Hindsite could have a purchased a new one but do like the challange
maybe a big washer welded to a short piece of pipe? would work asis prolly though?
possibly a bearing flange would do it..
I wonder if anyone realised I have altered the wrong end.
I put it in and it is upside down now.
Will start again
Yeah…that’s not going to work if upside down…and the oil will be in the wrong place.
Most of us just fit a YSS or Hagon shock and be done with it…they’re brilliant for the VF’s. Jamie Daugherty also has quality shocks for the VF’s. https://daughertymotorsports.com/
