Hi All,
I have 2 rusty RE tanks and plan to repair them one at a time.
One of the tanks is very rusty inside, and has been patched with JB weld. The internal pipe work seems to be so rusty and perforated that it can’t be turned off at the tank.
My mate Mike donated a severely dented FF tank for me to cut open to investigate the internal plumbing, and maybe use the bottom panel and pipe work to weld or solder into the RE tank.
Makes you wonder why such a complex system is used! The good old “hole in the tank and screw a petcock in” seems to have worked for millions of bikes in the past.
Do let us know if you manage to find a way to replace the VF system.
It’s not really that complex, fuel in, fuel out and a reserve…but yeah, a simple petcock would suffice.
Smithy.
Won’t be replacing the system. Looking at the best way of cutting the FF bottom and pipes out and welding/ soldering it into an RE tank. This would give me the larger diameter lines too.
