Hi peeps,
It’s my first post on here. I have to say, the posts on this site have been a ‘bedrock’ to me over the past ten years . The information has been top quality, and valuable for mechanical and electrical issues relating to my ‘steed’ (86 vf 1000ff),although the bike has been relentlessly reliable, considering its age. Ive also helped a few on here with their bike issues.
It’s now time to deal with a my issues.
Ive known the two previous owners through my working life, one of them who bought the vf from brand new.
The mileage is just under 30k.
My projects for it include, strip n clean rear suspension likeages, possibly renovate the suspension unit, although I know its not serviceable apart from refreshing the oil. The adjustment cable is also seized.
Fabricate an exhaust system, as my first attempt was ok, but needed some fettling, so I’m attempting a second try with an improved knowledge on how the two rear cylinders should be vented more efficiently .
A new heat mat is needed for below the airbox, above the radiator, as the original had perished through engine heat. Its a rubber one. Just thought maybe a fibre glass matting would do the job just as good(what do you think)
Lastly, the dreaded carbs are coming off (god help me). The only issue with them is no 4 slide doesnt move when opening the throttle on start up(tank and airbox off, quick check) . Riding it seems ok though.
Apart from the exhaust, the bike is standard from when newly bought. No cam issues, so no modification needed. I think the standard exhaust box n pipes are obsolete, hence the need to fabricate another one.
Looking forward to it.!
