Hello there are 4 mixture screws on the vf1000 r 1984 carbs does anyone know the factory setting ie
Is it 2 turns out from being in the close position. Thankyou
Standard “factory” RE pilot screw setting is 2-1/4 > 2-1/2 turns out from “lightly seated”, anywhere from 2 to 2.5 turns out will get you in the ball park. If you have a jet kit or different idle/pilot jets, you’ll need to vary the adjustment accordingly. Stock idle jets are #38 and most jet kits give you #40’s so you could possibly go 1/2 turn in on each…but a lot also depends on relative altitude etc… Correct carbie balancing is also crucial to this as you don’t want one or two carbies pulling more air than the others at idle, it will make things difficult to get right and it will run like a pig.
I usually like to check the idle mixtures with a “stand alone” O2 sensor but not everyone has access to them…and it can be difficult due to our 4 into 1 into 2 exhaust systems.
Smithy.
That’s great info… thankyou for that smithy
