Australian VF1000F restoration project, first Honda and first time posting to go easy on me- Joking of course so roast me if you want?
Well found a cheap bike without doing many checks on it, nonstarter and maybe im stupid for not even do a compression check. Anyway, long story and I know you guys probably will read this much so this is the short edit I promise. The bike is mostly complete, it was rough on the paint so the bloke or bloke before him gave it a quick spray. 2nd red flag.
Fuel tank was installed but with random fasteners and washers, sensor was out and not working.
This was first job
Anyway with help from follow colleagues at work, the tracks cleaned up and finally the proper resistance was measured from the terminals again. A bit of water damage from sitting around with crappy fuel? Anyway all good now
Second on the list was coolant
Coolant overflow was dirty than door knob at the pub just after covid restrictions were lifted in Victoria Australia but don’t get me started. Anyway this is when the ultrasonic clean kicked in and cleaned the best. I was told that the dishwasher had good results. Lets just said I got kick in the arse by the misses as the bicarbonate of soda mixed in with the extra woolworths dishwasher tablet resulted in an extra bubbly bath spewing out the side. I wished I took a photo!
With strong stream of water from the hose, I washed/flushed out what I could from the fill pipe. Leant that the frame had a drain hole but took off the pump to make sure no critters (gold fish or jellyfish) were present. All was good and not much rust – surprised. Well this was the first challenge as I snapped one of the bolts off
New oil, sump off and front exhaust, I was expecting worse but this was the result, ultra cleaner to the rescue again. Gasket (o ring) on strainer was not good and first lot of parts ordered. Anyway here is the clean version of the sump and lovely new gasket
thats it for now, next is rust in tank, fuel lines, battery and few wire issues. Phots later as newbie can only post one embedded pic at a time. Later
