In the second diagram you do not have to split the cases. This is the one behind the left crankcase cover. The other oil control orifice is in the sump under the oil pump. So you do not have to split the cases to check both of the orifices. Sorry if I misled you or anyone else.

From my reading of your original post I understood that this was a problem that developed rather than one which manifested itself after a rebuild which is why I thought checking the inner seal may be worthwhile(item 21)

Bif’s correct, you should check the seals when you pull the cover to check for the oil orifice. If you need one I should be able to find one for you.
