Paint Codes

I’ve been trying to find out the paint codes for the frames of the VF range so I can accurately restore my FE to the original finish as closely as possible and have come across this information regarding codes. The Honda paint code for the 1000Fs is NH104MU, and is called Pleiadis Silver Metallic(!). The 1000Rs use NH146M, called ‘Accurate Silver Metallic’.
Hope this is of use to someone, it certainly has me!![:)]

Nice one scratcher…I took a gamble when I took my frame to Spectrum Coatings off Junction 1 of the M18 at Rotherham…had a look at the colours they showed me and took a guess at the silver/grey they had . Looks fine to me…just wait until it’s parked next to a correct colour frame…[:I][:D]

Oh yea…a tip for you scratcher…obviously when you prep your frame you’ll block all the holes up…goes without saying I know[:o)]…but the threaded hole for the LHS swing arm bolt…make sure it’s washed clean of grease etc before blocking oup…and make a good job of blocking it up cos them beads that blast away are little buggers and get everywhere…and that particular hole is a “one-off” non standard fine bloody thread…( 25TPI I think?)…So any debris or fine greasy beads that stick everywhere including ya threads will be a right bugger to clean…and if it’s not 100% clean then when you fit the swing arm you will have a bloody big problem getting the bolt to run in its thread…

Ha you say. “I’ll borrow a tap off someone to clean it out”…the taps are scarcer than rocking horse shit and to buy cost a fortune.

DAMHIKIJKOK [:D][:D][:D][;)]

If you fook the special bolt up, gimme a shout…I have a brand new one spare…[8D]

Cheers for the tip m8! Finding these codes was one thing. I’ve now tried 2 so called specialist outfits to see if they have those codes on their database and can reproduce the paint, but so far a big fat no! Still, early days yet, someone will have it, just gotta keep making enquiries. I’ve since found out that the U suffix on the end of the FE code indicates that an undercoat is required, yet none is required for the R(no U suffix). Strange that! I always thought they used the same colour frames, but the code says otherwise. See now this is what I enjoy about restorations. Digging out the lost information and then finding a way to use it. Makes the whole deal much more interesting, but takes a little longer to complete the work! Let’s face it, if it was easy, it’d be no fun!!!

G’day Guys,
Speaking of restorations and paint codes - my own project has hit a simular snag. I’m getting the VF re-sprayed in the black/white/silver/grey livery but need the original Honda paint codes to ensure the colours are right. Cannot get info / codes off the frame or bike itself - they’re long gone. I only have 1 nice original condition fairing component that could be copied if need be but I rather not rely on colour matching this way if the original codes are available. Can anyone help???

When I figure out how to post pics I’ll give you all a look at it’s progress.

Cheers: Tim

There’s a brand new fairing half in the black/white/silver scheme you want on Flea Bay in Oz…[8D]

I’ve got a UK fische for these, so I’ll check it. I’m sure the colour scheme paint code is on there somewhere.

I’ve got an update on the FE frame paint code. The original NH104MU is no more. It’s now been replaced on the colour database with a new paint, code MA145-50, supplied in whats called a 90 line water based paint(?) and its called Pleiadis Silver as before.

I have got the paint codes from parts fiche, downloaded from VF1000.com, surprise. Paints were delivered by RH Motorradlacke in Germany, and the results were great. I got a “candy alamoana red” set for my VF1000F2, and “pearl shell white” to my VF 750S from there. Their pages knows also the NH104 M-U. Pages are in German, but they read and answer faxes in english too. Yes, faxes. I tried email couple of times, but did not get an answer before I sent a fax. Japarts in Netherlands sell also their paints, service available in english too. Addresses: http://www.motorradlack.de/ for RH Motorradlacke, and http://www.japartsnl.com/ for Japarts.

Try RS motorbike paints in barnsley I have not got around to trying them out yet, they are a Honda specialist. www.motorbikepaint.co.uk 20A Racecommon Rd

I was in the motor trade as a paint sprayer and whenever I came across a bike for repairing paintwork they could be a pain as the codes only ever meant something to the dealers, probably for reference for buying replacement parts so we automatically went for making a near as possible match and used fading out techniques if we had to blend into the original, I personally get matches from a local paintshop as near as possible in water based/two pack, getting a perfect match is impossible because after approx 25 years you wont get the same pigment, aluminium flake, mica or resins plus taking into account the Japs may have used their own paint systems differing from our european paints, the other problem you may encounter is that paintshops will not supply to the general public anymore, unless its aerosol which I believe is an air drying acrylic.

I have a mate in the trade(he’s sh!t-hot) and he’s found the original code, as well as the modern replacement in waterbased. I don’t have a problem with exact matching cos I’m going for a total respray to original colours, so no blending in will be required. I also have a brand new old stock sidepanel which has been stored out of sunlight in it’s original packaging for years and can be used to ‘tweak’ the match until it’s indistinguishable from the original. The frame silver was tricky cos I wanted to replicate the Japanese metallic appearance as closely as possible and now that’s possible as well. So I’m chuffed!
