Pilot jet setup

I’ve set this 1000FE up with 2.5 turns out ready for fine tuning-
can anyone advise me on how to fine tune this when idling? it seems that any turning I do with any jet screw does nothing! most other bikes I’ve had I can hear the change and get results.. do I have to take the other plug caps off to get this - and if so will that stress the CDI’s ? thought I’d ask incase it’s no good for them or if there’s a trick to get it right.
synchronising’s coming up- and I know this VF wants to come alive!

Assuming you’ve had the carbs off and cleaned…put a build kit through them..?? Do they have stock jetting..?? Stock pilots, (#38)..?? Float levels all good..?? Carbs balanced within a mm of their life..?? All compressions are good and valve clearances 0.005"..?? All of this combines to make life easier in the end.

Smithy.

Yes cleaned and stock 38 145 150 did the valves.. the only wildcard is the exhaust which looks really poorly done— I’ll get to that later..
Just keen to get it purring

The manual does outline a procedure involving a 50rpm drop on tick over.I don’t own a tacho that’s as accurate as that.

I’ve just finished a set of carbs,Ultrasonic clean, new float valves,Orings and bench sync.Pilot screws at 2.5 out and floats at 7.5mm.I’ve not had a chance to put the vacuum gauges on it yet but it runs smooth with no rev hang and good pickup as is.

As mentioned in a previous post other factors may be affect smooth running.

thanks bif.. I missed that bit in the manual. electronic tach on the way. I remember these bikes in particular we’re like night and day between ‘close enough’ and properly tuned
