Hi folks.
Looking to convert the standard shock to a alternative option which would be better
I found someone converted a blackbird shock and sent a message with no reply.
Would someone have any suggestions thanks.

YSS and Hagon make shocks for our old VF’s. I have a YSS shock on my recently restored ‘84 VF1000RE….it will transform the bike into one that actually rides nicely.
I have an YSS on my R and it works fine.
Just one thing to mention regarding YSS: VF1000F&R frames differ from 84 to 85/86 - the top mountig point for later frames have some welded washers so you need a wider mounting on the shock absorber.
As far as I know YSS offers a version for F and R that differ in length (5mm) and the F version fits to 85/85 frames and the R version fits to 84 frames.
If you have 85/86 VF1000R you need to modify the frame/shock absorber or use the VF1000F version from YSS.
Maybe they changed. My knowledge is 6 yeasr old where I changed mine.
I have used a VF1000F2 Boldor Hyperpro to upgrade my VF1000RF. It’s a little bit longer than the original and compensates the 10mm I’ve lost using the CBR600 rear wheel. As Faxe reports keep in mind that the mountings of the VF1000RE is different to the VF1000RF/G. For the VF1000RE you only can use shocks for VF1000RE or VF1000F.
Cheers for the info
I found this from a earlier forum member
(Rear shock conversion)
using a Blackbird shock and which he made up a adapter for one end of the bottom mount.
This is the article
I just finished making an adaptor to fit an 02’ Honda CBR1100XX Blackbird shock to our 84’ VF1000F Interceptor. I’ve done this conversion to a couple of small Sabre’s and it works great. It cost me $90 to do including the shipping!
