OK the results are in. I love it! it’s a little stiff , so have just backed the spring off a few mm – I’ll keep going until it’s what I want and then mess about with the dampening (I’m guessing that’s how it’s done?). Not sure what the nitros gas setting is suppose to be- I may have to read the gsx manual.
So also played around with my super leaky forks, that used to drip down to the disk and further! (scary as!!) Well I saw on utube someone stuffing a thin bit of plastic into the seal to scrape out crud.. and I can’t believe it- but it seems to have worked! so I renewed the oil with atf of unknown spec but much thicker, so now they’re working much better too.
Thanks for the tip Pete- I’ve read that post now and oddly a new cbr yss shock was on tm recently for 1/2 price! it looked the same as our vf ones but shorter.. I’m still on the fence though- if I knew it was just a shorter vf shock, I’d buy it.
and thanks again Brett, every successful - enjoyable ride I have is building me up for a spending spree on it.
more time in the cooling system next- must check it’s got a thermostat in it, as it boils over on the stand but runs cold on my 9 degs rides
cheers guys- I’d be faffing around in the dark otherwise
Total agree Smithy, I am going through the start of the restoration myself, sit in the garage, it therapy for me, love the bike, I will post some photos over the weekend, looking at shock now too?
me too, like riding it and looking at it– I bought a spare bike too now.. the stock shock’s buggared on that 1 too unfort, but the cams are better than my good 1 (they’re all pitted). Soo much to do!
There is a new shock listed on Ebay. I’m not affiliated with the seller. I just saw it yesterday and thought of this thread. I suppose I’m lucky, mine doesn’t leak.
