Can the first section of the exhaust be removed with motor in place on the rear cylinders?
Yes, but it is difficult…the nuts can be difficult to get at and the front pipes and collector box need to be removed first.
Smithy.
Cheers for that.
Might take mtr out
As Smithy said, it is possible. Essential to have 1/4 drive sockets and universal joint tools.
I found out the hard way that it is possible to fit the pipes after installing motor in frame.
It’s really quicker to slip a bare motor out, fit rear pipes, and reinstall. Lessons learnt in the VF Hard School!
Cheers speedy yes have to do that .
Wanted to get a few ks on it to find out niggles, oil use jetting etc.
Found frnt cylinder spark plug damp.
Bike has being sitting a long time so hoping to do more ks.
Some suggested sticking rings ,haven’t done comp test yet.
Compression test sounds like a good idea. Worth testing coils and lead resistance, and trying a new plug before you delv deeper into motor. My experience with VFs is they all use some oil, some more than others, even after rebuild and run in.
If your talking about the 2 short down pipes from the rear cylinders, if they still have the heat sheild attached i think youll struggle to remove them, you can get at the nuts but you will struggle to get the pipes out of the gap between frame and engine… i once fitted an engine into the frame without the rears fitted, it was impossible to get them in, had to take the engine back out to get them on…
Will be taking engine out
I presume 1000f/f2 are the same cheers
