I’m just completing fitting an RG motor into my 85 model FF, and have a Q
The feed from main loom to RHS of motor with 6 pin connector on the RG motor has one extra short lead with a bullet type female connector.
The FF motor has the same type of six pin connector, which feeds ignition pulse pickups, oil pressure sender, and temperature sensor in thermostat housing.
The RG short loom section has an extra short lead with a female bullet connector attached.
Does anyone know for certain what this extra lead is, or can forward a wiring diagram please?
I’ll have a go at start ing it with that lead hanging off, I’m wondering if it’s where the temp pickup was relocated too on the RG?
A bit confused speedy, how can you have an extra wire on a six pin socket when four are for the ignition pick ups one is oil pressure and the sixth is temp sender on the thermostat housing.
What colour/s are on the wire?Green/Blue is for the temp sender and the only one I can think off that would be a female bullet
Thanks for the reply @bif looks like my FF has the temp sensor wire as a seperate wire out of the main loom, looks original. The 6 pin loom to the pulse generators on the RG seem to have the temp sensor wire incorporated into that single wire assembly. I spose it would have neatened it up and made assembly easier in the factory?
There are differences between the looms Speedy, easy enough to remove the wire from the multi plug to tidy it up.
When I fitted the R motor to an FE I did away with the gear change linkage on the left footrest and used a lever from the early(fh/j) cbr1000.What are you using,or are you going race style, one up and four down?
Hmmm @bif , it’s getting stranger, looks like I either have an electrical gremlin, or the pulse gen wire terminals are different between 6 pin RG and 6 pin FF- no ignition, further investigation required this arvo. The FF was running fine elec wise before motor swap.
Re gearshift, I’ll just be using std FF style, including linkage.
Easy enough to compare the orientation of the wires, have you checked the resistance on the R pick ups?You could always swap over to the F pick ups, they are the same
Hi @Smithy1 both R motors I’ve had split have had the normal, ie, same as the F. Currently have the FF standard gear shift set up as in second pic, which gives me a normal one down N four up shift.
