Rusty fuel tank

I have a somewhat rusty fuel tank. I can remove the rust with an acid but i suspect that will leave some pin holes where the paint is bubbling on the top of the tank. As tanks are hard to come by I am thinking my only option is to use sure seal or similar two pack epoxy tank liner to try and seal it up and prevent further rust. Not sure if the pipes in the tank will get blocked but I assume if i rod them through with wire before it cures I should be OK. I will need the puncture the filter gauze and fit an inline filter. Anyone have experience of this? Or willing to offer approval for this this plan?

I’m in the same situation with 2 RE tanks. One tank has rusted through feed pipe from the tap plate, so I need to fix that. In a couple of weeks I hope to get time to weld a new bottom section and pipes in. Once that’s done I’ll have to line it. I will cut the screens out, and jam some nylon plugs in the intake end of the pipes to prevent the liner from blocking them. Once sealed I hope to be able to blow the plugs out with compressed air.

This is the plan anyway……

I’m considering cutting bottom off tank ,clean up and reweld
