Seal for fuel cap

I looked at removing the barrel to clean it, etc. but decided against it for exactly that reason. I think people have done it, but it’d be tricky to get the black cover off without damaging it and difficult to put back.

I’ve got one on the way too. Thanks for the pioneer that figured this out.

Ordered the AU$45 cap (“For Honda VF1100C VF500C VF700C VF750C Magna 82-88”), it arrived from Chyna in 2 weeks. Looked like this:

Some gentle persuasion convinced the rubber seal to pop out:

Aand it’s identical to the original in enough ways:

(Much more gently) prized mine apart, changed the seal out & pressed it back together. My one-way valve in the cap was f*#’d, luckily I had a spare, so now I can fill up to the top without gasoline sloshing out. WIN!!!

My cap leaks too. I ordered this same cap, based on Garyb’s instructions. I hope to get to it this weekend.

Thanks for your update and results.

I got the seal replaced, easy peasy. It probably didn’t take 5 minutes. Thanks for trailblazing this simple solution.
