Tyres for 1985 VF1000FE

Hi, newbee from Belgium here. Got myself a lovely 1985 VF1000 last month. Tyres are 2012-2013, so I am looking to replace them.
Has anyone tried to fit 130/70-16 in front?
I would like to try Pirelli Diablo Rosso 3’s front and rear (150/60-17) but not sure that the front will fit…
Thank you & happy motoring!
These older bikes are so much (more) fun…

1985 will be an “FF” not “FE” and will not have a 16" front wheel. If it is an FE, the 130/70/16 will fit but it will steer strangely as the tyre will be pulled slightly out of it’s normal shape, likewise with the rear using a 150 on a rim designed for a 140.

Try the Avon Road Riders MKII, (AM26) in stock sizes…they’re quite impressive tyres and grip is very good. Stock sizes are also available for our VF’s.

Thanks Smithy!

I would like to take advantage of newer design and compound technology, but was not aware that going up 1 size would make that much difference.

I hope I can find some Avons’s over here…

BT46 F/R is always worth a try. They should be available in 120/80-16.

If its got a 16 inch front its an FE. Build year may be 84. Anyway there is no issue with using a 150 70 17 on the rear. Rather use that in a radial than a crossply.

The difference in tyre sizes will have little effect in reality I suspect…I did try a 130 on my old RE many years ago, it steered a little strange but not dangerous at all.
