Hey guys. Got a little bit different problem today. In the final steps of restoring my 82 VF750 Sabre. Motor is out for paint and some minor work, one of the problems I was fixing was the cam chain tensioner issue the early VFs had.
The modification to the tensioner went fine, but during reassembly I was torquing down the cam chain guard bolts, and the right rear bolt on the rear head pulled the threads out of the block. I torqued it in two stages, first to 10 ft lbs, and second to the final torque spec of 18 ft lbs. It torqued to 10 fine, but wouldn’t get any tighter when trying to reach the final spec.
What do I do going forward? Is it actually a head bolt? It’s quite long so I’m assuming it is. Is it important, would it be a bad idea to just reassemble without the bolt, or do I need to pull the head and helicoil it. As far as I’m aware the 750 Sabre and Interceptor motors are very similar so I figured I would ask here. I know it’s not the typical topic for this forum but I’m completely lost on what to do now.
